From the past: Star Wars

Let's begin with posting some other drawings and comics I recovered during last week in Italy. I found several drawings about Star Wars; I was a very big fan during high school, and even though the prequel trilogy ended up with being very far from the highness of the old one I followed it the same... for me that was still acceptable, now instead I don't follow much what has become the Star Wars franchise in these very last year since, in my opinion, it has just become the merchandising of itself, nothing more than this (and I'm afraid of saying this, shame on you George Lucas).

However, back to the cartoons: these sketches do not belong to a strict period of time, but clearly some of them have been done just after the Episode II - The attack of the clones.

Cartoons for a book I illustrated

Before Christmas I did some drawings as complementary illustrations for a book written by a countryman of mine, Stefano Mainente, who wrote this funny satire about working in the factories of Veneto (my region in the North-East of Italy).

Drawings from the past

After I came back to Italy yesterday, I explored a little my old sketchbooks containing comics and drawings I made when I was younger. I'm going to post some of them in the next few days - also because the comics speeches are all in Italian and I would like translate some of them - but here is a little preview.
I don't remember exactly when I have drawn the following ones, but for sure in the years of high school (most probably around 2000-2001)

Unucky interviewer - Stan Lee

What happen when you interview somebody who doesn't meet your expectations? That's what usually happens to the unlucky interviewer.

His first interview is with Stan Lee:

From nord to north

Actually today it didn't rain... but until yesterday the situation was really like this (and I wrote "one month" just not to write "almost two months"...).

To be honest, I am not that kind of Italian person that dislike British weather; I come from a part of Italy (Veneto) where it is not so different from here... with the only expecption of the extremely torrid and humid summer. So, theoretically I prefer UK under this point of view. But while last year we had a lovely spring here in Leeds, this year we have seen spring (almost summer) just for one week, in March, and then winter again.

The real Sherlock Holmes - The hound of the Baskervilles

Second episode for the series with Sherlock Holmes and John Watson and their not-so-incredible adventures.

If you want there is also the Italian version.

The real Sherlock Holmes - color experiment

Since some of you asked me whether I was planning to color my comics (in particular we were talking about the first episode of The real Sherlock Holmes series), and actually I did an experiment in this direction just on one panel of that table... here is the result:

This was a very rough experiment - I just picked up my tablet and started coloring the b/w panel with the default GIMP color palette, and since the final result was an eyesore (too powerful color impact, I mean) I lowered the opacity of the color level aroud 90%. I can't say I'm fully satisfied with it, but that was just to try.
I have recently installed Corel Painter on my pc, I'll try it in the next few weeks and see if it could be a good instrument (I mean, if I can get to use it properly) to color my drawings... but do not expect a lot of colored stuff: I am a fan of b&w :)

The Revengers (aka The Asylum Avengers) poster

This is another drawing I recently did. It is the parody of the famous cover of The Avengers #4 comic book
this one
which I wanted to spoof re-doing it with characters from some of the most popular movies by The Asylum

The real Sherlock Holmes - A study in scarlet

Let's start with a brand new series I called The real Sherlock Holmes. The origin is this: I was randomly sketching Holmes and Watson, then I decided to do some comics about it, with the idea to re-interpret some of their most popular adventures basing on their titles and doing them in a more "everyday life" style.
I'm not sure about what could be the exact number of adventures at the end, but I have a couple more on their way... In the meantime, here we are with the first one.

As anticipated, there is also the Italian version (actually I did the Italian version first and then I translated the dialogues in English... that's way in the previous table you find written "Fine" instead of "The End", cause I forgot to change it (and then I was too lazy to change it when I discovered the error) XD

A new beginning

Some months have passed since I closed my historic blog, the BrunezNet Journal (this was the first version). This was a blog mainly about B-movie reviews and stuff like that, but even though I'm still a big B-movie watcher I didn't feel anymore to continue with this writing reviews. When I started it this kind of activity was a kind of marginal phenomenon, but it seems it has become "mainstream", with plenty of blogs and sites about bad movies - some of them I like a lot, some others not so much... however, I'm going to leave this kind of activity to somebody else, keeping only my Italian fanblog about The Asylum active on this side.
However, for the rest I realized that I don't have much to say, at least with plain words; I realized also, during the last year (basically since I moved to the UK), that I left aside for too much time one of the biggest passions of my existence: cartooning. I neglected this activity so much in the last few years that I haven't produced anything since my self-published Il codice Convinci comic book (a parody of The Da Vinci code), made in 2006. It is not that in these past five years I did nothing - I had to deal with my master graduation, unemployment, one year as research fellow, beginning a PhD in another country... I also did some video making. But very very few drawings or comics, and nothing produced to be released.

So, before I become an old man full of regrets for having not carried on one of the biggest and funniest pleasures of the life (at least my life), I decided to restart drawing on a regular basis, and post here what I do.
The language of the blog is English; this is something I thought about a lot: English or Italian, or both? I decided to do it in English, not with the purpose to look cool/posh/whatev, but just to make it accessible to everyone who wants to read it, wherever is the part of the world he/she/it comes from (especially since I knew several non-Italian people in the last 1 and 1/2 year). But the choice of the language for this blog is something that troubled me quite a lot, since most of my previous followers are Italian and actually I can express myself much better with the Italian language - and I'm quite sure I'll do quite a remarkable quantity of mistakes writing in English. But it will be mainly a blog of images, and I'll post also the Italian versions of the comics, so don't worry.

Having said this, I think that's it. I don't have exactly a very clear idea of the comics, drawings and various art I'm going to post here, just everything I put on paper that I consider worth of being shared. I have some strips ready but then I don't know exactly what I'm going to produce onwards. My previous comics where full of parodies and these kind of things, but I would like to explore different styles of drawings, create new character, let's see what is going to come up to my mind (and to my sketchbook) in the future. In the meantime, you can have an overview of my "art" looking into my deviantART page (I will probably cross-post the same stuff here and there also in the future).

PS: do you like the layout of the blog? That's another thing I was working on for a while, before I found a composition that satisfies me. I know I'm not so colorful, but what can I say, I feel comfortable with this style.
