Sheffield Zine Fest 2013

Just a quick public service announcement: I'll be at the Sheffield Zine Fair, Saturday, 16 March, with my own (half) table this time! I'll be selling the usual stuff + a couple of novelties I'm working on at the moment. All the infos at and in the Facebook page of the event.

LUU student elections and Tony Blair

This week I have two cartoons published on the Leeds Student newspaper (vol. 43, issue 13): the first one (page 10) is about whether societies should be told or all group together to vote for the same people in the leadership elections, for posts such as Education officer or Equality officer:

The second one (page 9) is a caricature of that little innocent angel of Tony "bloody hands" Blair. That was a last minute thing and I had to do it in a rush, so I may have done it better, but whatever:

Graduation caricature - Law!

This time the subject is Valentina, a dearest friend of mine, which graduated in law yesterday! So this is not just any commission, I wanted to do a proper thing and that's why it is coloured too.
PS: yes she likes Corto Maltese :)

Django Unchained

I've seen it a couple of weeks ago, and surprisingly liked it. As you know I am a big fan of the original Django (I also wrote this article with a friend of mine), and if you have seen Tarantino's movie, the original Django - Franco Nero - does a cameo in Django unchained. So I re-interpreted the encouter between the two Django with this (quick and awfully coloured) doodle.

Pints and pencils - February 2013

First Thursday of the month so Pints and pencils, the drawing competition where you end up doodling a four panel story based on silly, randomly selected combinations of places, characters and actions. This time I had to draw the very little politically correct adventure of "HAL 9000 - rollerblading - with a gay Hitler - on the location of a 70's German porn movie".

2000 ADisney

I may be able to draw but colouring instead has never really been my thing - actually I've always been quite bad at it. But yesterday I purchased this pack of markers called Letraset ProMarker Set 1 and they are simply great, comparing to any other kind of markers I tried before, both on the act of colouring (no smudges etc.) and the final result... so I think they are going to be my default hand-colouring choice from now onwards (apart from the usual digital colouring with Photoshop or GIMP which I'm not using very often recently anyway).

Here you can see an example. Clearly I'm bad at colouring the same, but if you compare it with this previous drawing I think the difference is evident.

Why arts and culture matters in a recession

Only two posts in January?! This is not acceptable, I have to restart drawing regularly... however here we are with a new cartoon I did for Vol. 43 Issue 11 of the Leeds Student newspaper (in particular for this article).
