Pints of Cake

Hi everyone, sorry for disappearing for a while but I had a PhD to finish in these last few months, but now I start having again some time for my illustration activity.

In particular this time I wanted to talk about Pints of Cake, a new blog I started contributing to in the last few weeks. The blog opened after being successfully funded through crowfunding on Kickstarter (here is the featured contributor update about me), and my contribution consists in a weekly comic strip belonging to a series called Brunez vs. Pop Culture, where I explore my conflicting relationship with popular culture.

The first strip went live last week, the second one today, so if you fancy following it add to your favourites/bookmarks, and do not forget to like the Facebook page and follow us on Twitter.

Steampunk photoshoot

So, not much activity on this blog recently eh? I have to say I have been busy with my studies, but hopefully soon I will have again time to dedicate to my illustration activities. In the meantime, I want to show you some photos of me taken by the very talented photographer Clinton Lofthouse: I got in touch with him because he was looking for steampunks for a photoshoot, and this is the result of our collaboration:

I think the final photos are amazing, I never thought I can look so cool :D But this is thanks to the great job made by Clinton, so if you want to check out more of his work:

PS: as you may have noticed, in the main article about this photoshoot there are some information about the plot of Tales from Elsewhere, with some preview of what is going to happen in the next episodes. I am working on them at the moment, more information about them is coming soon.

Upcoming anime zine!

Just a quick announcement, since I recently thought about doing another minizine in the style of Zombies before they went mainstream. I made this teaser/promo image (which will be most probably also the cover of the booklets) as a preview... I'm working on the content of the zine itself which will be available next month.

Also I want to remind that this weekend I will be at Steampunk Doncaster, and the following weekend at the Summer Steampunk Market (which is part of the Leeds Waterfront Festival). See you there!

Bridges, krakens, cowboys and steampunks

I enjoyed doing this drawing so much that I did another one, once again based on an original drawing by Canaletto which I filled with retrofuturistic characters - and a kraken. It is available as A3 poster on Comicsy.

Another thing I've been working on recently is a poster for an academic workshop about western cinema. I came up with this poster, inspired by the colourful intro sequences and movie poster of old spaghetti westerns and more recent homages like Django Unchained:

To conclude, a quick reminder: tomorrow I will be in Morecambe selling my comics, zines etc. (including the above mentioned Rialto poster) at A splendid day out:

Just a quick announcement to let you know about two events I'm going to attend as a trader: the first one is the Otherworlds Convention, at the Chester University campus in Warrington. More infos at and the official event is here.

The other event is A Splendid Day Out! in Morecambe, a steampunk event in my favourite British seaside city... how can I miss it? :) The official event is here.

Yorkshire Zine Weekender aftermath and Steampunk Doncaster

So, last weekend was intense, but so good! It was a while since I last did a zine fair, and it was great to be back to two of my favourite events: Sheffield Zine Fest and Leeds Zine Fair. I've met old and new friends, and enlarged my collection of zines with new readings:

We laso did the zine in a day, the official one-shot of the event collecting contributions made on the day by exhibitors, and this is my contribution:

To conclude, I would say that it was a great experience, I definitely want to go to more zine fairs! While I'm looking for them, I'm still active on Steampunk events as well, in fact I can now announce that I will be both days at Steampunk Doncaster on 21st and 22nd June 2014.

The official website is, and this is the Facebook event:

Elsewhere Venice & some news

Here is my last drawing, basically I wanted to experiment with landscapes so I recreated an artwork by Italian artist Canaletto then I filled it with random retrofuturistic characters. I'm selling it as A3 posters and it can be purchased online in my Comicsy shop.

And now, some news: in case somebody missed it I created a Facebook page for Brunez Comics, the address is And these are the upcoming events I am going to attend as a trader:

Next weekend it's the Leeds Steampunk Market at Armley Mills, I'll have a stall on Saturday 1st March. Website here and official event here.

Then it's time for the Yorkshire Zine Weekender on 14th and 15th March, with the Sheffield Zine Fest on Saturday and the Leeds Zine Fair on Sunday. I will be at both events, and you can find more details here and here.

To conclude, my stuff will be for sale from 10th March to 4th April at The Handmade Alternative III, a pop-up shop in 13 Market Street, Bradford:

A couple of more events still have to be confirmed, but for now I would say March 2014 is sorted. See you!
